Pioneer Day - Island Style

We had a Pioneer Day Celebration on July 21 at the Smith's.

We started out with a tug-of-war (that's a plastic tablecloth with water in the little depression--oh well).

Next was the stick-pulling competition. Jake won against Arthur-- Tori and Madison--

and these four brutes!

His loss came against--

Limson--as did Roland's.

Learning the Virginia Reel...
rounded out the activities. Then it was time for the food!

but others just kept on dancing...

That looks like so much fun! I had to work on Pioneer day, so I didn't get to see the fireworks that Melaleuca put on. I don't know how great they were though. Let's just put it this way: I didn't know they were having fireworks until yesterday. (It's July 29th today.) So yeah. It looks like Jake's the strongman there. Did he try against Dad or Sam? I'm just curious. Not that it matters.

Dad was at the hemo clinic so he didn't make it until later (at which point we had banjo and washtub bass!). A lot of people wanted Sam to compete against Jake, but I told them that it wouldn't be much of a competition--Jake would be gritty and intense/Sam would laugh at him and let go.

Haha! Yeah, that is very true. Sam said he was scared to do it 'cause of what happened to Bro. Knickerbaucher last time. I was like, well, I highly doubt you and Bro. Knickerbaucher are in the same physical condition, Sam. But whatever.
