Being Monk-ish

Uh-oh. My OCD is showing. This morning I ended up at Price Costco about 5 minutes before opening, so I grabbed a cart and settled in to wait with the little group that had gathered to get their shopping out of the way early in the day. I knew right away that the shopping cart I had chosen so carelessly was a reject, so I quickly pushed it to the side and pulled out the next one. It rattled too loudly--no way was I going to stroll around PC with that! I felt a little self-conscious pulling on the next cart, but what could I do? It came out easily, but a little unevenly. I gave it a little shove as I strolled nonchalantly around to the other line of carts, hoping nobody would notice. (i.e., "What is the crazy American lady doing?" Oh well. At least I can't understand them.) I groaned inwardly as I realized that the next cart I pulled out was horribly unacceptable. I could see now though that just a couple of carts away was one that looked relatively new, so I quickly tugged on the two intervening carts to move them out of my way and, sure enough, slid out the cart of choice. It glided smoothly and quietly as I turned to the faces of my fellow-shoppers. The lady closest to me (an islander) smiled what seemd to me to be an understanding smile.

And then there's my bed pillow compulsion. . . .

Bed pillow compulsion? I knew about the carts, and to be honest, I completely agree.

I'm curious about the bed pillow thing.

ok, but do you wipe the handle down with a little hand sanitizer? You should, you know, because the germs on that thing are something you don't even want to contemplate.

It's really a pillow case thing...I have to have the pillow case opening facing the outside of the bed--it canNOT be turned the wrong way or I can't sleep. Also, the seam of the pillow case has to be down. It's really nothing, but Case thinks it's weird. I think he's given me a complex.

I live with a total neurotic which curred me mostly of that.

Hans got so angry with me a few months back that the kids spent the night at friends houses. His face got all red and for the next few days he was a total jerk. What did I do? I stirred the fruit salad. That’s it. I put the salad on the table and gave it a little stir before serving it. Now that is weird.

doug freaks out about tooth brushes left on the sink and if we flush with the lid up. something about "germs aspirating". meanwhile, if i leave for 1 week, the house is a disaster when i return:)

i can't do walnuts, unless they're crushed in a batter for chicken or something. but don't put them in deserts!
